READ, WATCH, DO - BLACK HISTORY MONTH USA 2025

The rich history, culture and contributions of the black community give us so many ways to honour Black History Month. To help you narrow down how to celebrate in the USA this year, here’s what we recommend you put at the top of your watch, read, and to-do lists this month.

Each selection has been pulled from the work of our partners at the DM Foundation, meaning they all come with an added dose of purpose.

Discover our top picks and the change they're part of below:

READ: MODERN HER-STORY  – BLAIR IMANI

With too many stories being left out of the history books, Blair decided to re-write them. Modern Herstory throws the spotlight over to the trailblazers - from activist Marsha P. Johnson, to beauty guru Jackie Aina - who've made history but are too often left out of it.

This comes from the National Black Justice Collective’s long line-up of recommended reads - all geared at helping us grow together, and grow towards their mission of ending racism, homophobia, and LGBTQ+/SGL bias and stigma.

WATCH: ELIYAH’S STORY – FROM STRUGGLE TO STRENGTH

As we celebrate stories of strength, resilience and joy this month, take 15 minutes to meet Eliyah - a U.S. Army veteran who battled homelessness and addiction before reclaiming his future, one step at a time. Literally.

Running changed Eliyah’s life. Now, a dedicated volunteer for Back on My Feet who empower people across the USA to break cycles of poverty and addiction – he’s helping others do the same.

DO: ADD TO CART, SUPPORT BLACK YOUTH

We know what you wear is more than clothing – it’s confidence. Pick an item from Project Lemonade’s Amazon Wishlist, curated by Black foster youth, for Black foster youth. Each purchase ships straight to their Oregon store, where young people in foster care can shop for the clothes that speak to their style, for free.

This is just one of the initiatives that Project Lemonade, runs to help foster youth across Oregon and Southwest Washington find the confidence they need to defy the odds.
